As the students are getting older I think it is important that they start taking more ownership of their learning and what we are doing in the classroom. There are a few ways that I like to help them try to do this. The first is by setting short and long term goals that make sense to the students. They need to understand their goals and understand what they need to do to get to those goals. Our goals this trimester are going to be A.R. and Dreambox goals. The other way I like to help them take ownership in their learning is by having them keep track of their progress. This way they can actively evaluate how they are doing.
Today everyone is going to bring home a binder that is going to be the home for our classroom goals and the sheets that we are going to use to track these goals. Also in the binder is a folder where I would like everyone to keep their homework and a spiral notebook to practice their spelling words. I want the data binder to come home to you, so you can also take an active role with your 2nd graders goals.
This binder is going to go home every night and needs to come back to school everyday. The class seems really excited about bringing these home tonight. Let me know if you have any questions!
